Derbyshire Lecture Festival

Well done to WBro Dennis Ashmore and his team of FCFs and MMs for a great evening at the Derbyshire Emulation Lecture Festival. Excellent ritual delivered in an excellent manner, in the presence of WBro Brian Evangelista and 11 active officers of Provincial Grand Lodge. And they raised £900 for the Derbyshire Festival 2014. Well done, and thank you.

Jon peddles back home for the Festival

W.Bro. Jon Lish, the Master of Royal Alfred Lodge No. 1028, will be cycling from Alfreton to his original home Sunderland in aid of the Festival.  When there he will be meeting with members of Quest & Fawcett Lodges.  Jon’s grandfather was WM of Fawcett Lodge at the time that Jon’s mother was born, and Jon plans to present back to the Lodge the silver christening cup they gave him on the occasion.  Other members of his family are current members of Quest Lodge.

Jon’s ride will be in the first week in September and he expects to take three days to cycle the 150 miles or so.  Not bad for a brother with two metal hips!

To sponsor Jon please use the attached form Derbyshire – Alfreton to Sunderland Sponsorship form – 23March2011

Festival Total hits £1.24 million

By the end of February another £30,276 had been received.  In the last three months alone the Festival Total has increased by £122,000.  And pledges are increasing too.

Furthermore, the total of money actually received has now exceeded £1M with £1,007,000 actually “in the bank”.

In addition, we now have 49 Lodges that have exceeded half of their targets, and 10 Lodges that have already achieved their target and been presented with the PGM’s Festival Maul. To see if your Lodge is in these lists go to http://www.derbyshirefestival.org.uk/Fund_Raising_Results.htm

Thank you for all that you are doing.  I wonder how far we can get by the Annual Meeting on 2nd April?

Cantelupe just keep on building

Cantelupe Lodge tonight initiated Bro. Andrew Carley in the presence of W.Bro. Brian Evangelista, PAGDC, Assistant PGM, a host of members and visitors and two other EAF’s in the Lodge. The Lodge is clearly demonstrating how to bring in new “younger” Masons.

It also presented the APGM with another £3,000 towards the Derbyshire Festival 2014, taking the Lodge to 90% of its target.

Well done Cantelupe, on both fronts.

All this and BQ’s 50th anniversary too

Cavendish Lodge was packed last night (11th February) with visitors from across the whole province. Leading them was the Provincial Grand Master, RWBro Graham Rudd, together with his Deputy, VWBro John Collison, and WBro Brian Evangelista, Assistant PGM. Also there were RWBro Martin Crawshay-Jones, Past PGM, and VWBro John Beard, Past Deputy PGM, and the heads of many other Orders in the province.

Why?

It could have been to witness a first class second degree ceremony, in which the WM, Bro John Barker, Passed Bro Andrew Slack in exemplary fashion. But its unlikely to have brought so many out.

It could have been to witness a donation of £11,000 to the Derbyshire Festival 2014, taking the Lodge to two thirds of it target. A worthy achievement (thank you Cavendish) but again, unlikely to have brought so many out.

No, it was to celebrate with WBro Dr Brian Quartermain, PSGD, PAPGM, his 50th Anniversary of being initiated into Cavendish Lodge. The PGM delivered a moving tribute to Bro Brian, highlighting his academic (two doctorates) career, his working life, his service to the community and his masonic contribution, before presenting him with his certificate. In reply Brian thanked the brethren and highlighted some of the key changes in Freemasonry in the last 50 years.

Thank you Brian, for all you have done for Derbyshire Freemasonry and for a cracking good night.
